Ronald W. McCloskey

To his sons, he was affectionately known as OM (old man). To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was Pops. Ronald William McCloskey, of Mt. Bethel, PA left us on Tuesday, August 4th, just under a week after celebrating his 94th birthday. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 29, 1932, to the late William and Ruth (Volker) McCloskey, Ron was predeceased by his wife, the late Joy (King) McCloskey, in 2001, and his daughter Bonnie Jean Hoffmann in 1993. He is survived by his sons Brian and Blair and their partners Marge and Susan, whom he adored, and son-in-law Gary. Also by grandchildren Dylan (Carol) McCloskey and Erin (Mike) Thompson, Kristen (Matt) Balodis and Kelly (Mike) Friel, and Kendra Hoffmann (Zack) and great-grandchildren Sammi McCloskey, Sadie and Michael Thompson, Taylor and Morgan Friel and Chase and Clay Balodis. He is also survived by a brother Bruce and sister-in-law Gina of Delaware. An alumnus of McGill University in Montreal, Ron spent many years involved in the independent testing field and was an acknowledged authority in the analysis of precious metals, first with his father and brother at John H. Banks Laboratories and later as the owner/operator of PTL Testing Laboratories with his sons. On retiring from the laboratory business, Ron operated a Wild Birds Unlimited franchise with Marge. Ron took great pleasure in his family and especially enjoyed time with grandkids, taking them on many RV adventures while Joy was still around, along with bonus grandchildren Zach and Jake. He was then able to enjoy the activities of his great-grands for years to follow. He was able to stay active right up until his passing, continuing to drive locally and enjoying the company of the Dunkin crowd almost every morning just down the road from home. He was also extremely active in keeping together remaining classmates from his Malverne High School class of 1950, having organized reunions and maintaining a newsletter to surviving classmates for many, many years. Pursuant to Ron’s wishes, cremation will be private; there will be no services or calling hours. Feel free to remember Ron with a contribution to your favorite charity.
