John D. Bonisese Sr

John D. Bonisese Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg, surrounded by his cherished family. John was born on August 7, 1930, in Bangor, PA, son of the late James and Mamie (Pinto) Bonisese. Among his many accomplishments, John's greatest source of pride was the incredible journey of love he embarked on with his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 73 years, Dorothea (Pekrul) Bonisese. Their enduring love story was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of witnessing it, a testament to the power of lifelong commitment. John was a remarkable individual who made an indelible mark on both his family and the business world. Early on in his career, he founded the Wallenpaupack Marina. However, he was most accomplished devoting an impressive 42 years of his life to being a proud owner and operator of the family business, Pioneer Sportswear Inc. in Stockertown, PA. In addition to his wife Dorothea, he is survived by their five children: Valorie J. Bonisese, Jan Bonisese-Downey (Eamon), Patti Hill (Harold), John D. Bonisese Jr. (Gina), and Diana Schantz (Glenn). John's legacy continues through his 8 adoring grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. John's life was characterized by a myriad of interests and passions. He was an alumnus of Bangor High School in 1948 and a proud graduate of Lafayette College's class of 1952, where he played football and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Outside of his professional and academic pursuits, John was also a cherished member of the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community in Florida for 32 years, where he forged lasting friendships and cultivated his passions as an avid pilot, a dedicated golfer, an unwavering Yankees fan, and a savvy stock market enthusiast. He cherished family trips to destinations like Alaska, New Orleans, and San Francisco, creating lasting memories with those he loved most. Family and friends may call on Monday, October 2nd from 9 to 11 AM at the Fiore Funeral Home, 230 Market Street, Bangor, followed by a short service. Burial will be in New Mt.
