Christopher S. Checho

Christopher S. Checho, 49, of Bangor, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 21st in Philadelphia, PA, after a lifelong struggle with sickle cell disease. Born in Bethlehem on October 30th, 1973, he was the son of Salvatore and Anna Marie (Capobianco) Checho, of Bangor, PA. A 1992 graduate of Pius X High School, he went on to study Business at DeSales University and graduated in 2001. Despite his own challenges, Chris was blessed with enormous empathy and compassion for others. He was the first to ask how you were feeling even if he wasn’t at his best and always demonstrated optimism in the face of adversity. He possessed a wry sense of humor, and his infectious laugh brightened any room. To say he loved sports would be an understatement. They were his passion and he spent time studying every statistic and nuance of any sport. While in high school Chris was the football team’s manager and even overcame his physical limitations to join the baseball and basketball teams. He loved spending time with his father and they enjoyed their fishing trips around PA, NY, and Canada. He and his mother shared a love of gaming, and they forged lifelong relationships during their frequent trips to Paradise Island in the Bahamas and more locally, the Borgata Resort in Atlantic City and most recently Oceans. Although Christopher made friends wherever he was, he mostly enjoyed spending time with his close friends and family, especially his four nephews and a niece. He lit up the room wherever he went and will be sorely missed. Survivors include his parents, Anna Marie and Sal Checho, his brother Faust Checho, his wife Adriana and their sons Luciano and Massimo, his brother Frank Checho and his children Laith, Tala, and Jude. He was predeceased by his twin brother Craig, who died shortly after birth and both his maternal and fraternal grandparents. Calling hours will be held this Friday, January 27th, at Fiore Funeral Home 230 Market Street Bangor from 9 – 11 am followed by a Eulogy at 11:45 in Our lady of Mt Carmel Church Third & Garibaldi Avenues Roseto with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00. Interment will be in the New Catholic Cemetery, Roseto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Christopher’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Program 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
