John A Bermingham

Despite all those accomplishments, and those were just a few, the thing John was most proud of was his family. He always moved fast (I mean Meeting John Bermingham started with a handshake no matter who you were or how many times you’d met him. The lucky ones were taught a secret handshake he had invented, though everyone who met John was lucky whether they knew the handshake or not. John, 76, died on March 19, 2021 in Bangor, PA with family by his side. John was born in Chicago, IL on August 29, 1944, where he spent much of his life until moving to New Jersey and later Pennsylvania. John turned around struggling companies (among other things) for over 20 years, whether it was as Chairman, President and/or CEO. John cared deeply about learning and education, having earned his BA in Business Administration from Saint Leo University, completed the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Advanced Management Program and, in his 70s, he earned his MBA from Centenary University. John also continued to travel to Florida for Spring Break with his fraternity brothers into his 70s. John served in the US Army Signal Corps in Korea during the Vietnam War where they entrusted him with top secret cryptographic and nuclear release codes. John was recognized for valor under fire from enemy infiltrators while restoring compromised cryptographic communications, along with his “professional competence, outstanding leadership ability and devotion to duty.” John also served on the Board of Directors and later as a Trustee of the Miss America Organization and was fluent in Japanese. While unrelated, everyone who met him was sure to learn about both. , the man loved driving Corvettes, flying Cessna airplanes and riding Harley Davidsons), but he always slowed down for his family, whether it was skiing down bunny slopes, going golfing, taking hikes, going on road trips while doing the speed limit, sneaking junk food at 10 p.m. or just talking. There was always lots of talking, especially when family vacations required arriving at the airport four hours early because, as Mr. B liked to say, it’s better to be five hours early than five minutes late. John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie; four sons, John, William, Michael and Robert; daughter, Lindsay; four grandchildren, John Christopher, Colton, Greyson and Michael; three sisters, Sara Benson, Maribeth Farmer and Lindsay Christensen; and his pug, Jasmine.
