Helen Mariano

Helen Mariano, 96, formerly of Roseto, PA and Country Meadows of Forks, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus. Born in Pen Argyl, PA on September 10, 1928, she was the daughter of Greek immigrants Costos and Niki (Koutoula) Vrontisis. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Frank Mariano, with whom she celebrated 71 years of marriage. After graduating from Bangor High School in 1946, Helen worked as a bookkeeper in the Slate Belt area garment industry and other local small businesses. An accomplished seamstress, Helen also enjoyed playing bingo and cards, doing crossword puzzles, and entertaining her family. Helen is survived by five children: Jennifer Long, of Easton, PA; Frank (Jan Maiale) of Herndon, VA; Salvatore (Lisa) of Saylorsburg, PA; Steven (Nancy) of Roseto, PA; and Richard (Annmarie) of Easton, PA.; eleven grandchildren: Kara Howe (Ralph), Dr. Kristin Long (Bruce Denmead), Lauren Niehaus (Brad), Ellen Mariano, Nicholas Mariano, David Mariano, Steven Mariano (Erin), Dana Mariano, Dr. Anastasia Depew (Steven), Danielle Garzillo, and Alania Mariano; and eleven great-grandchildren: Daniel and Alyssa Howe; Harrison, Jensen, and Eloise Denmead; Natalie Niehaus; Mia, Maci, and Matthew Mariano; and Athena and Mason Depew. She is also survived by a sister, Marie Vrontisis, sister-in-law Theresa Barczynski, and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her parents and siblings Arlington and Nickolas Vrontisis, and Thelma Rosato. A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Fiore Funeral Home, 230 Market St., Bangor PA. A service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m., with interment immediately following at the New Catholic Cemetery, Roseto, PA.
